Nursing Mothers
Congratulations on becoming a parent! We know you’ve got lots to juggle, so we wanted to give you easy access to the key information you need.
University Support
If you have a child or are pregnant we suggest you make yourself aware of your universty guidance and procedures:
Children on Campus
Students are normally able to be accompanied by children in general public areas, such as the campus eateries and the library under supervision. Children brought onto the campus are the responsibility of the adult who brings them, and must be supervised at all times.
Students are not normally allowed to bring children into seminar or teaching rooms, lecturer theatres, laboratories or shared work spaces. From a health and safety perspective, students should be aware that the university environment is not, in general, designed for the needs of young children and toddlers.
Breastfeeding/Facilities
Students are able to breastfeed or express anywhere in the public spaces and eateries on campus that are comfortable with, and have the right not to be challenged whilst doing so.
If students require a private space these are normally available via the First Aid rooms (which should also have fridges in which breastmilk can be stored) in either:
- Blake Building (Greenwich Room 051)
- Drill Hall Library (all students, Room D.A119)
- Medway Building (Kent)
There are also a range of baby changing facilities on campus with accessible toilets in:
- Pilkington Building (Room 112)
- Drill Hall Library (Room DC016)
Locations of accessible, baby changing and gender neutral facilities across all campuses are detailed on the AccessAble accessibility guide. This includes map and detailed description and location(s) within a building:
